The Tactical Nappy Kit
Since becoming a dad, I’ve found myself optimising everything, not all of them are actually helpful, but I’m sure some are! Suddenly the house is full of automations to keep lights dim during nap time, Home Assistant is tracking nappy changes and feeds via Baby Buddy and I’ve got heaps of new
One thing I noticed pretty quickly though: our nappy bag situation was… not efficient. The big bag is fantastic, but it’s also roughly the size of a carry-on suitcase. Perfect for a whole day out, but overkill when you’re just popping into a café or heading out for a short walk.
So I set out to design something smaller. Faster. More tactical.
Enter the Tactical Nappy Kit, or T.N.K, because acronyms make everything feel more official.
This little organiser keeps only the essentials: a few nappies, travel wipes, sanitiser, bags, and a precious morale-boosting treat. Everything has a dedicated pocket, so it stays exactly where you expect it to be, and it’s immediately obvious when something needs restocking. The whole thing opens flat like a book, sits steady on any surface, and can be used one-handed, which every parent will understand is absolutely critical.
Of course, even the best system fails if the human behind it forgets to restock it. (That’s me.)
Which is why I also designed the Emergency Nappy Change Kit.
This one is a tiny, single-use, snap-open pack printed around the supplies mid-print. You pause the print, drop the items in, and let the printer seal them inside. When needed, you just crack it open along the designed weak point like a high-stakes glow stick. Inside: one clean nappy, some individually packaged wipes, one bag, and one treat to help you forget what you’ve just witnessed.
They’re perfect for gloveboxes, backpacks, prams, grandparents’ houses, toolboxes, junk drawers, anywhere future you might desperately need an emergency plan.
Both the TNK and the Emergency Kit are on Printables if you want to make your own. They’re quick to print, surprisingly practical, and honestly make fantastic gifts for new or soon-to-be parents. I’ve already printed a handful!
Yet again, 3D printing saves the day.
